The new school year is just over one week away, and am so energized from seeing old faces and the new ones and the excitement in everyone's eyes. The custodians have worked hard all summer making the school sparkle, the teachers are busy getting their classrooms ready, and the students are starting to wander by the school and peek in windows hoping for a chance to catch up with someone “on the inside”.
I decided to start a blog this year—something to help keep you connected to the Principal’s desk. My goal is simply to share. To share ideas, to share events and to share my own musings. This new direction is part of my professional growth plan for the year; I think that writing about my ideas will be of great personal benefit to me. I hope that you can find value in it as well.
As you will see in my next few posts (well, possibly some re-posts), I have tried this before and both times I froze with my finger above the “publish” button. I could write the articles and ideas down—both serious and quirky, find images to support my discussion, and format it all nicely. I even signed up for a free online blog, twice, and gave them creative names, but I never actually published a thing. No matter how happy I was with the final product, I always felt...naked...with the idea of someone else reading my thoughts. I’d panic, and think...
“Is this simply self-indulgence?”
“Who am I to think that I have something important to share?”
“Does anyone even care what I have to say?”
“What if someone I know actually reads this?”
...and then I went to a great summer conference. 5 pretty intense days with some amazing people who lead me through some very intriguing conversations. Some of those people were experienced and wise, and some were shiny and new. They all contributed to my learning experience, and—humbly—I realized that I contributed to theirs. And, that means that I have to take this next step.
I have to press publish.
Gulp...gasp...<click>
So glad that you went to 'click' from gulp and gasp! I plan to follow your musings closely. You will help all of us learn for sure. I also hear that you are planning on some year planning - not sure if you're using your blog or creating a document. Hope you consider sharing. School plans are to me as hockey cards are to my boys! Sick, I know. But I like anything that supports people in handling their extensive work load with more ease and with confidence. I love alignment too. Thanks for considering! Thanks for putting yourself out here!
